An Upper Voice Choir in Gosport and Lee-on-the-Solent

About the Choir

The Lowry Girls Choir  was started in 2009 in the Lowry Room at

St Faith's Church, Lee-on-the-Solent. It started as a group of ladies who wanted to sing, but who were not that confident about their singing voices.

Angie Jones,  the Musical Director, encourages the choir to develop the ability to sing together, basing what we do on the Sing for Pleasure principles of listening, reading music and trying to sing from memory. Angie is always developing the choir's sound; she makes each practice night purposeful with warm ups and a focus on songs for performance. We value our enjoyment of singing, shared laughter and the friendships in the choir.

We sing a varied range of songs, from rounds,  familiar popular songs, sea shanties, songs from other countries and traditional songs from the British Isles.

The Lowry Girls are enthusiastic participants  in festivals and concerts locally; Sing for Pleasure events around the country;  annual workshops run by established vocal and musical coaches; Christmas fairs and Come and Sings. The Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary's, Alverstoke is a highlight where we lead the singing at the switch on of the lights.

We go out to local care homes to sing for residents with a smaller group of Lowry Larks encouraging participation in favourite popular songs from past decades.

We meet at St Mary the Virgin, Rowner Parish Church, Gosport, on  Monday term-time evenings from 7.30 pm to 9 pm.

We would love to welcome new ladies to join us in the pleasure of singing! (No auditions)

                                                              Come and sing with us!
You will be AMAZED  at what you CAN do!!
